Sleeping in? or not!

now I, can't sleep in! even on weekends, I either set the alarm (for like 8.30) or just always wakes up around that time. yea yea it's a little longer than my usual wake-up-and-drag-yourself-to-work alarm... but, i wish, i sometimes just wish that I too could sleep like my used to be roomies who slept 'til the noon hits or even later..

since work came along, the weekends always brings that erie feeling of, what am I going to do today. especially with the cold November rains, and winter blues.. either you dont have anything to do, or just don't feel like doing anything at all. sometimes it just hits you hard with wtf are you doing with your life? yea yea you've accomplished the usual shit, but where on earth is it going though you know.. argh yet to figure out.. that probably will be a whole another post or two if I really figure out what I wanna do that is..

Two week getaway

The trip was might I say Fabulous! especially an escape from the cold winter for two weeks felt like heaven.. but dude was it HOT.. and yeah because i was going from the single digits to the upper twenties within twenty four hours.

anywhoo... was great seeing my family who I haven't seen for over three years, and friends.. whoever's left in sri lanka and the ones visiting for Christmas. I should say, Christmas/new years was a real good time if you wanted to do a reunion or whatever.. all the birds looks to be flying homewards during that time. I was amazed by how many random meet-ups I could fit in with my 'global' friends..

inflation rate in sri lanka has gone to dogs i say! i can't believe how groceries, clothes, transportation, or rather everything has become so bloody expensive. How do people afford to live? When I was planning my trip I thought I would shop my socks off and get great deals, save lots on clothes.. ahh nah! that wasn't the case. the savings weren't by much if at all. people complaint how stuff is so expensive, but odel and the usual shopping places were packed.. i guess it was Christmas! I was just amazed at how cash flew out of my wallet in a matter of couple hours.

what's with everyone running to coffee shops to spend rs.400 for a coffee. So a friend and I planned an evening together and we were too early for dinner.. his sister had recommended one coffee bean, and off we go to "hang out" for couple hours before we went ahead with dinner plans. I paid rs800 (including tax) for two lattes and I swear i can buy two lattes at Starbucks or in another coffee shop in this city for the same price! mind you, the minimum wage here is $8 something an hour. how do people in sri lanka afford all this!?!?! but I mean it's a good thing that there are several 'hang out' places like that in sri lanka that the young-ens could just chill, and don't necessarily have to have a meal with friends..

All in all I had lots of fun. caught up with at least a few. hope to plan another trip this year.. may be!

Winter Blues

I hate ranting on the blog.. but I have been, a lot lately, and I feel very comfortable doing that.. being a keyboard warrior.. muahahaha!

Well... now.. the winter is being a bitch this year. It's not even officially winter yet you know, but maximums are already in the minuses (word?)!! wtf? I guess I have no one to complaint to but 'us' the humans. Summers scorching hot, and Winters freeze every one's balls off.

at least, I'm packing to go to a hotter destination... sri lankaaah!

junky stranger in the hood

last weekend was umm quite eventful.. the roomy and I drove to see some friends hoping to spend the saturday there and come back late.. alas it snowed like crazy and so we had to head back early afternoon as we didn't wanna be snow-stuck (word?)...

woke up to a sunday morning that was white outside.. but weird inside.. things at our place had moved.. I woke up before the other (as usual), and thought the changes were due to roomy's late night or something and didn't really bother changing them back.. roomy wakes up.. looks for OJ not to be found.. he claimed he didn't move anything, do any of the changes that both of us noticed.. by this time we were quite alarmed.. holy smokes!

somebody had come inside our house while we were asleep.. creepyness!

strawberries and bananas missing.. OJ's missing from the fridge.. towels in the washroom, a pair of runners, shaving cream, nail cutter gone missing.. we think we locked the doors like we always do.. but a stranger, a creepy and a junky one at that, had come into our house stolen wicked stuff, while we were snoring.. it gave me creeps and scared the hell outa me..

locks were changed with some hope.. what else to be done...

on a happier note.. giants won the superbowl. not that I was following nfl at all.. watched only the last two minutes and a bit of the celebrations..

holiday season.. boredom..

it's great to be done with college but at the same time i'm left with nothing to do.. i'm bored outa my mind should i say? few things to do here and there and the big move is coming up too. hate moving with a passion and quite bored since there seems to be no deadlines coming up lol.. i'm too human.. complained enough about having too much to do before, and now not having enough to do.. argh!

hit the library close by and borrowed two books. kept in mind not to go overboard since i'm moving and have to avoid the hassle of having to come back to return the books. it feels so christmassy every where and i'm loving it even though I don't have any big plans. there was a bit of snow yesterday but seems to have melted away leaving slushies (word?) here and there..

the office christmas party was a blast, was great to see everybody so relaxed and friendlier, not to mention happier and merrier thanks to the never ending margaritas, martinis and the likes.. I, as always decided to stick with the food and just finished off with my dessert - a shot of baileys.. free drinks and i had only a single.. pathetic isnt it?

can't wait 'til after christmas.. i can feel some shopping that awaits on the other side. sorta miss the holiday shopping in lanka, however it feels more christmassy here and i prefer to be here for the holiday season. seems like everybody's celebrating it big.. has everybody already forgotten about the tsunami tragedy happened few years back hmmm..

alright time to start reading those books..

winter's knocking

It's almost the dawn of winter in this corner of the world, and I hate winter with a passion. Having grown up in Sri Lanka, I'm still craving for the sri lankan warm climate, even though we grumble everytime we go out in the sun and start sweating like pigs. Come to think of it, we grumble for every weather, regardless of whether it's warm or cold.

anywhooo yes! winter's knocking at the front door, while summer secretly ran from the back door. I realized it this morning when I went to my car, already few minutes late to find out that the windows/windshield is freaking frosted!!! I had to switch on the car and crank the heater full blast, find my frost/snow scraper thingy and do the necessary so that I could see. Front and back both!!! I was screaming inside since I was already late, and so mad that the damn building is covering the sun. Sun wasn't even winking at my car, if it did I wouldn't have to be scraping at eight in the morning with NO GLOVES!!! and that wasted five minutes of my time, leaving me nothing but rush to work in the damned traffic and eating my bagel inside the car and trying not to look like I'm stuffing my face!

A colleague at work pops in this morning saying, ohh it's the first day of frosty grass! meh!

hmmph! may be I should find another parking spot. Or leave home ten minutes early everyday 'til winter ends?!?
