bitch'n babies

So the first comes in the morning, talks about her two kids.. how the weekend went, how their sports and other activities went, who scored and who didn't.. dinner table talk, or one kid trying on mascara because of the fancy new mascara commercial on tv. etc etc. okay this is all fine dandy... until the next mom walks in, and bitches about her little daughter.. how she has started to show her personality, taking her (the mom) for a ride, and demanding certain things at the ripe age of 2.. to which C responds how her two kids act and how she'd try to discipline them. mind you discipline here would be "[insert child's name] go to your room and think about what you just did" or they'd have a consequence like "you won't be able to have your daily tv time or wii time" or whatever.. Who am I to be criticizing the discipline methods, I don't even have a kid.  okay back to baby bitching.. and then second walks away to do her business.. in walks a third, another mom of two.. hello first mom how was your weekend, what are your kids gonna be for Halloween.. take them to X park for the Halloween train ride, we did that last year and my kids luuurrrvved it.. goes on how cute the little one was in his pumpkin outfit or whatever it was etc etc.  or they'd go awh when they sleep how cute they are, I can just keep watching them all night long, my little darling angels..!!!

mind you, now all this is happening while I sit there trying to work, pretending that it's not bothering me, while the proud moms chit chat about their bratty (or angelic) kids.

now i'm sure my mother dearest would talk about me endlessly to her friends too!? eek.. and I don't think that stops even when the kids grow up now does it.. shudders!

It's one thing to have kids, but another to talk about them constantly.  I know I wouldn't understand how and what you feel when you have kids.. your whole world would revolve around them, but others' doesn't. and please program it in your tiny little head there, that every time you meet a fellow mom or a mom-to-be, you needn't talk about your kids and terrorize the poor pregnant woman how many sleepless nights you had because the baby was crying, hungry, or sick.. I mean it's better than talking about politics but hey..

don't get me wrong, I love little bundles of joy.. squeezy mushy things.. but I pray to whatever and whoever's out there, that I never turn out to be a mom like this (if I ever become one).. ever..

Itch of knowledge

i confess, i have an itch to learn..learn something.. i wish it was the travel bug instead. well i'm almost always bitten by the travel bug but the time and money factors push the itch further and further away. gah it's another post.

anyhoo, i've been itching to take more classes given the opportunity, and i finally found something i thought interested me..  lucky enough it really does interest me, and i like going to class (questionable?). quite thought provoking, current and relevant. a while back I thought this is the last of it, you get some bs under your belt and be done with it.. argh i'm back to square one, with assignments and midterms etc etc. don't get me wrong my dear blog, I like the learning bit, but hate the rest of the garbage that comes along with the itch.  and gosh darn it I hate exams.. almost my whole weekend was spent reading. =S i'm becoming one of those.. eek!

i'm nearing a mid-term hence the rant..

of the Accents

I've been living in this land for approximately a third of my life. I think I grew up to be who I am now, in this country, and because of these sorroundings.. people.. environment.. and the rest. things are done differently here than I was used to. yes I did have somewhat of a culture shock when I first came, but soon enough I got used to it.. lived through it.. and felt a belonging.. as anything, every country has their own way of speech, or the accent I might say.

After all this time, is it abnormal to now have a different accent than sri lanka? after three and a half years i went home (yes I still call sri lanka home) for a vacation, and I honestly tried to talk like I used to. to take the accent back and talk like all my friends. I can't anymore. people would comment 'boy, do you have a thick accent'. I would politely smile and say Yes I do, and just ignore the looks I got.. i know what they must be thinking. look at this kalu sudda girl trying to be all this. I mean what else can I say. yes I have an accent, do you have a problem.. just deal with it.. it's how I got used to speaking here, and when you go about your life speaking to people in this country its a given that one would speak the way you hear it..

should I justify myself? I don't think so. Do I justify myself? I still try..

sigh..

darn it i'm not putting it on.. nor faking it.. and i definitely don't have a polkatu accent when I talk in Sinhalese.. so sit on it and rotate!

No Purple Pinky

everyone has a purple pinky, or at least have pictures up with a purple pinky. I've never had one.. never ever.. wahhh!

I was registered (at least I hope), and I believe received the chanda card by mail, but I don't live there. argh I forgot that I could've done a postal vote thing when I was vacationing last month.

I know nothing about politics, and hate it with a passion. so i don't give a fuck. But, I gathered from my little visit last year that Mahinda looks to be the lesser idiot of the two. and I didn't know that there were 22 presidential candidates LOL. Thanks to the department of elections government website. I mean twenty two?!?! Who are we kidding.

Like always, the elections are a Joke!

It'll be interesting to see who wins..

Calling for a Siesta...

After lunch with the girls and the doctor of another kind, I was feeling quite sleepy. you know, I wish we had a siesta time like some of the south American countries do. there's absolutely nothing I did today that couldn't have been done from home. argh how I wish I could just call it a 'work from home day'.. unlucky enough we don't have such days!

today I realized how much time I have at work that I actually do nothing. the boredom hit me so hard I was almost falling asleep. just some days i wish i had a modified work week then i can finish it up and go home, and may be do something better? if there's anything else!

i guess i can't complaint.. meh!

Winter Blues

I hate ranting on the blog.. but I have been, a lot lately, and I feel very comfortable doing that.. being a keyboard warrior.. muahahaha!

Well... now.. the winter is being a bitch this year. It's not even officially winter yet you know, but maximums are already in the minuses (word?)!! wtf? I guess I have no one to complaint to but 'us' the humans. Summers scorching hot, and Winters freeze every one's balls off.

at least, I'm packing to go to a hotter destination... sri lankaaah!

They tried to make me go to rehab...

i said No.. No.. No..

this was a bit different from rehab, but worse I'd say..

does this occur to everyone else or just me, that especially in sri lankan society, once you are done school, you go to college/university.. once you graduate, the infamous questions that you are being asked is not about your accomplishments .. but..

when are you getting married!?!?!?!

especially the older generation.. amongst them would be the gossipy aunties.. mother gets influenced by the aunties, and father by the mother.. if there's a wee bit of a quieter moment in an expensive phone call from sri lanka to this side.. the first question that'd pop outa the rents would be.. ahh so now you should get married.. that would be the next 'thing' to do.

so who creates these 'things' for you, or who decides them. Is it something only for the fairer sex in sri lanka.. or would it be the same across the board..

I usually take it as a joke, and think it must be just a passing cloud for that week.. but it gets annoying after sometime, and makes me cut the conversations short to the bare minimum.. and the last words that I'd utter would be.. "please leave me alone, and let me do MY 'thing' mother".

of the knots

relationships are bitches.. they feel/look good when things are going great, but is freakishly bitter when things fuck up. the most interesting is when parents have a complete opinion on the kid's relationship status.. when single, not just rents but everyone else around them and you have something to say... not that they didn't have an opinion before.. they did even when you were in a relationship. but when single it seems more.. be a marriage broker.. hey my neice's cousin's brother-in-law is single too you know.. and looking.. so who cares..?!?!

i have no interest in gettin married yet and move in to the suburbs or anything of that sort.. just as mother seem to want me to..

I don't think settling down is as bitter as it may sound.. but boy don't they make it feel like it's the last thing you want to do before jumping off a cliff..

random fb stalkers

title says it all..

are people this desperate to talk to women? as soon as certain things on fb changes, a lot of people esp. male species have a ton and a half to say, to console, and even to make moves..

I should've known better to ignore friend requests from random nutcases..

I don't even know you.. and why are you worried about my life.. so sit on this n rotate!

the world is full of...

male chauvinists? desperate fuglies? or just nutcases with no tongue brakes?

not venting.. speaking out loud i guess.. argh may be it is just venting..

where I work it's casual fridays everyday.. put on jeans n' a top, off I go to work every morning. But I make sure I wear decent.. anyways couple of months ago.. at work this fugly western-chinese man passed a comment.. 'crystal you look sexy today'.. i ignored and thought may be he couldn't find a better way or a more appropriate word to give a compliment..

last week was yet another stupid remark.. I go to the back.. that same employee goes 'crystal, i'm picturing you naked' ... I was like wtf? I thought I couldn't hear it the first time and was polite enough to pardon.. then he repeats.. so I had heard it right the first time. I was furious but managed to ignore the nasty comment and replied with a casual 'give it a rest man'.. spoke to the person I wanted to speak with and went to my desk.. other co-worker who heard it found it very awkward too..

I dont know I found it very uncomfortable. or may be i'm overreacting.. am I?

anyway... some people just need to get laid... or else desperation overflows to the point that if it wasn't at work he would've gotten a good one across his face..

of sororities and shopping...

what's this blogging about weekends.. may be i'm too pre-occupied during the weekdays I don't pay much attention to stuff happening around me or nothing really happens.. heh

friday noonish, phone rings at work.. friend of mine calls and talks me into going across that night with a bunch of girls for shopping.. wooot! in my mind - there goes my pay cheque. that's one of my new year resolutions by the way, reducing the amount of money spent on shopping.. esp. shoes and clothes..

anyway inevitably I say yes sir! go home pack a few .. hit the road... the girls I had to hang out with were those sorority types that I hate the most.. I don't even know how to describe them I just know they are those annoying and bitchy kind, who sorta walks about five feet off the ground and live in a dreamy world..

'like' was almost the only word they knew.. for ex. 'my phone bill like was so like expensive, and like my dad like was not like impressed'..that by the way was an actual sentence that came outa one of them.. anyways that ain't my business.. however I think it was a big generalization and a stereotyping from my part.. when you get to know them it wasn't that bad. they were quite nice and i think have good intentions and a big heart inside... or not..

the weekend I thought will be a nightmare and one of the worst, didn't turn out that bad afterall..

for better or worse, I didn't shop 'til I drop... quite happy about that!

Move in with the New Year

Happy New Year everyone~

I know I'm extremely late in wishing for the new years. Better late than never right? yes!
It feels like almost every year that goes by was shorter than the previous one. We are getting busier by the day and lose track of time i guess eh hmmm..

new year's was great. no huge bash or anything. just a quiet dinner at a downtown restaurant and a glass of wine. just the way I wanted it coz I was moving houses. no resolutions made as such, but the only thing i thought to myself is that I'm not going to buy any clothes for a long while, coz since moving places I threw out a lot of clothes one reason being that I don't wear half of them, and the other being that I have way too many and NO place watsoever to keep them. so no more clothes shopping for me! (let's see how far that goes right?!) About three garbage bags full of clothing are going to the second hand store or charity.

the move went smooth but hell-ish. why do people have to move. i haateee itt!! so fyi please don't move houses and stay where you are =). the old couch I had was too damn big for the little place i moved in and argh we had to throw it away, rather give it to the second hand store, leaving me with no couch!

I'm a victim of spine aches. bad posture? sleeping funny? horrible chair at work? whichever it is spine ache has gotten worse. the heavy lifting with the move, and long days made it worse for sure.

wet and ugly it is around here, and it isnt a down pour rather an annoying 'churu churu' rain. can't wait 'til the sun is more popular!

nutty professor

no this post is nothing about the movie, in fact I dont even remember what happened in the movie coz it was so long ago..

anyways the professor/academic advisor that I chose for my final project has turned into a crazyhead. He was quite helpful before however I kind of knew that he was so late in replying to any of the emails etc. since he was the best fit for my project I chose him. biggest mistake ever!

In the middle of the semester there was no way I could contact him to see what I was doing wrong and what the strong points were.. I was more interested in hearing where I have to improve etc.. had to send like five emails for him to reply and say sorry I have been busy?!?! wtf man you become an advisor to advise students, and the poor students are looking up to you and expect some kind of guidance to end this damn misery they are in.. you go MIA for a month and a half of the thirteen week semester and that's your best excuse?!!?

now it's almost the end of it he expects me to have everything ready as he had expected? and so now i'm in the hot seat coz he shows me the short comings which he should've showed ages ago and I could've improved and improvised the damn project...

argh why does everything happen to meee.... I'll be glad when this is over..

unwanted babysitter

the whole living alone thing is great and i'm loving it.. no need to tell anyone where i'm going.. take the keys i'm out the door.. no curfew yet no specific time to be home at.. eat, clean, do laundry and do everything else when and how I want.. walk naked if i wanted to (not that i do that :P).. in other words i'm wthout a doubt loving it to bits right now..

but the mother wants me to have a room mate.. or my previous baby sitter aka the cousin.. it's not that i dont love/care for the cousin or nething.. i do, and i'll always will.. but i can do my own things now and take care of me.. have been doing it for a while.. and why now.. say even if i lived with the cousin and sacrifice a little bit of my new found freedom, i dont want that person to be my baby sitter.. mother suggests that the cousin go with me for dinner with my friends at night because it's too dark to drive back.. wtf? am i to take someone with me even if that person's not invited..

I know mommy dearest suggests these only because she cares and wants me to be safe etc. but i wish they understand i'm not a baby anymore and i have my own life to live.. and i completely hate to make my life a big brother watching episode, nor someone following me around like that tail jolie wears in beowulf..

ASS-ignments

At times I wander why we are asked to do the stupidest assignments under the sun. I do understand and know that we learn so much from doing assignments, reports and whatnot. I'm someone who do not read prior to class, during class, nor after class. everything is right before exams and cram the hell outa it. so it's kinda good at times to have assignments to hand in, so that I know what's happening in class and what chapter we are on etc etc :D.

so regarding those stupid assignments... for example in this HR class i'm taking which is online, we are supposed to dismiss an employee from our workgroup (mine is completely imaginary), and has one part in the assignment that says:
"Make arrangements to “carry out” the dismissal with another learner in the class or with a friend. Do a role-play—it is important that you actually read the script to another person and get their feedback. Ask for feedback bla bla blah! "

do they honestly think that students are role playing to complete this assignment?!? r u kidding me? especially this one being an online class, and you dont have a face for any of the students nor to the instructor. anyways, this doesn't leave me a choice but to lie and fake it like no tomorrow, and write that I did the damn role play with a friend! yea right.. I completely understand the theory behind this whole role playing thing. students get the hang of it and it's easy when they step in to the real life.. it's understandable if it's a face-to-face class with a handful of students..

oh well... time to take a walk in to my imagination... sigh!

winter's knocking

It's almost the dawn of winter in this corner of the world, and I hate winter with a passion. Having grown up in Sri Lanka, I'm still craving for the sri lankan warm climate, even though we grumble everytime we go out in the sun and start sweating like pigs. Come to think of it, we grumble for every weather, regardless of whether it's warm or cold.

anywhooo yes! winter's knocking at the front door, while summer secretly ran from the back door. I realized it this morning when I went to my car, already few minutes late to find out that the windows/windshield is freaking frosted!!! I had to switch on the car and crank the heater full blast, find my frost/snow scraper thingy and do the necessary so that I could see. Front and back both!!! I was screaming inside since I was already late, and so mad that the damn building is covering the sun. Sun wasn't even winking at my car, if it did I wouldn't have to be scraping at eight in the morning with NO GLOVES!!! and that wasted five minutes of my time, leaving me nothing but rush to work in the damned traffic and eating my bagel inside the car and trying not to look like I'm stuffing my face!

A colleague at work pops in this morning saying, ohh it's the first day of frosty grass! meh!

hmmph! may be I should find another parking spot. Or leave home ten minutes early everyday 'til winter ends?!?
